UZ Arts

As an organisation, we create, commission, produce, programme and tour work across art forms and borders, supporting every part of the process of making and distributing art.

As creators we have developed and delivered events to mark occasions such as the “Opening of the Scottish Parliament” or the launch of the “Year of the Home Coming”. As commissioners our process focuses on the relationship between the artist, their work and the public. We provide the artist with space and resources enabling them to fulfil their vision; we also try and create development opportunities for artists. Recently, these have included residencies, collaborations, hothouses and mentorships. In some circumstances we also support the touring of work.

UZ believes in the potential of individuals and communities to inspire artists and create art, and collaborating with the public is an integral part of our day-to-day work.

Internationally, as the UK representative of the IN SITU network, UZ commissions, produces and tours art in public spaces across Europe. Recent projects include Mischief Las Bas’ “Nursery Crymes” and Stephen Skrynka’s “Wall of Death”. We also have strong connections with Sri Lanka, where we run an arts residency centre, Sura Medura that welcomes artists from Scotland, UK and Europe.
