Ruxandra Cantir

Ruxandra Cantir is a Moldova-born, US-trained, Scotland-based physical theatre maker and performer. Ruxy trained at the Dell'Arte International School of Physical Theatre (Blue Lake, California) where she earned an MFA in Ensemble Based Physical Theatre. Since her graduation in 2013, Ruxy has devised and performed original work in a variety of styles all around the world, both in self-started projects, and as an invited artist in established companies.

With a knack for the absurd and the grotesque, Ruxy most often works in the styles of Clown, Vaudeville, Physical Comedy, Theatre of the Grotesque, and Movement theatre. Inspired by transformation and embarrassing stories, she likes to celebrate the unusual by embodying outrageous characters in intensity-filled situations. Her work sits at the intersection of Eugene Ionesco and The Big Lebowski.

In Scotland, Ruxy has been publicly (Creative Scotland) and privately (ScotRail) funded and has showed her work with SURGE, Clown Cabaret Scratch Night, Anatomy, on STV (on Scotland’s first and only late night TV show), and National Trust for Scotland.

Ruxy is also a dedicated educator, community-based art facilitator, interpreter, multiple language-speaker, and has an ongoing research interest in the Alexander Technique.
