Edinburgh Festival Carnival
Edinburgh Festival Carnival is a vibrant carnival hub in Edinburgh. Each year the Edinburgh Festival Carnival hosts over 800 national and international artists who adorn the centre of Edinburgh for a one day carnival extravaganza, with the breathtaking castle as the back drop to the event it is a renowned event attracting audiences of up to 20,000 people.
This year, 2019, the carnival is reaching out to the community, with funding through the PLACE program, the Edinburgh Festival Carnival now hosts a weekly carnival academy at St Brides Centre, which offers the opportunity to brush up on some carnival crafts, making headbands and exciting costumes ready for the parade with Lucia from Edinburgh Samba school, Afro Brazilian drumming with Jose Rojas and outdoor dance choreography with Caroline. The weekly academy offers a fantastic opportunity to get involved on longer term basis with the carnival community in Edinburgh.
This year we will host over 126 international artists in Edinburgh in the run up to the Carnival in July. From April the Edinburgh Festival Carnival will host 18 artists from 9 countries including Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, India, South Africa, Zambia, Costa Rica, USA and Brazil, for a 3 month residency in Edinburgh. A fantastic chance to work with artists from around the world exploring carnival across the world.
