A Blank Canvas
Artistic Director Debbie Robbins has been part of the Scottish aerial dance scene in Edinburgh from its beginnings in 2008. She is one of the first emerging Scottish artists to come from this growing art form. a Blank Canvas was established in April 2013 as a platform for the creation of her physical art, in which she uses the mind and body to create storytelling art. She takes inspiration from aerial arts, dance, Pilates and physical theatre. She has a desire to produce genuine, expressive, narrative performance art and has a passion to create high quality and inspirational work.
Debbie is an aerialist, dance artist and professional performer; trained in aerial fabric, static trapeze solo/doubles, aerial hoop/Lyra and acrobalance. She has participated in professional master classes in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, Germany and France. As well as her artistry, she also finds fulfilment through teaching Pilates and has developed an Aerial Pilates syllabus. She runs regular classes and workshops and will be running teacher training in 2016.
In Her Shadows
a Blank Canvas is working in collaboration with Jabuti Theatre on In Her Shadows. A visual performance that explores a young woman’s relationship with the complexity of her depression whilst challenging the stigmas that surround it. With award winning director Cora Bissett, In Her Shadows is touring as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival
and Aberdeen Dance Live in October 2015.
